Now I want to talk about corporate culture. We know corporate culture is very important in your business for a number of reasons. Frstly, because you want to attract the best talent and you want them to stay with you. And secondly, because it's going to help you with your sales and your marketing.

So corporate culture is really important. Now you really want your team to be happy. That's what gets the best corporate culture. So how do we get our team to be happy? And obviously the environment is changing right now, so this is something that we need to look at. We need to take care of it. So I would suggest to you the one, the foundations of happiness for your team is whether they feel the sense of belonging.

Let's think about this for a moment, in this household we have an 18 year old, and he doesn't feel part of any belonging of any group - he left high school and is trying to do university remotely. So you know, he is inbetween those groups. So his sense of belonging is low. Therefore he's not feeling very happy.

I'm sure you see this in your own corporate world. The same things happens if team members are not feeling like they belong part of the team, then they're not happy people.

I bet you remember one of the first jobs you got and the business card you were given. It had the logo of the company you worked for where you were a new employee . That was your initial state of belonging and being part of that clan or that group.

So my question to you is how do you help the team members to have that feeling of belonging? What can you do?

There are many things you could do. It doesn’t any or much cost. Time step spent listening to someone sincerely - actively listen to someone - that's great. Providing them with maybe welcome messages. If you get a new team member, maybe a whole new kit of branded stuff.

What else can you do to make them feel part of the team? We're missing that inside joke, banter around the water fountain because of COVID-19. So what can you do at a remote level to provide that - the in jokes, the little knowledge you have about your team, each other, your clients? All that's really important and part of belonging.

I'm going to challenge you this week to see what you can you do to improve the sense of belonging for your team members. How can you capture that and how can you do this ongoing throughout the rest of the year?
