My name is Nick Leighton and for the next few minutes, you are exactly where you want to be.

This is originally recorded December 15, 2020 for Facebook Live - uncut and uncensored..

This week - let’s look at how small and medium-sized business owners - and entrepreneur - should be planning for 2021

As a business owner, you have the freedom to define your future. take hold and embrace that.

You have two options - do this yourself or bring in your team/advisors to help.

If you are small or a control freak you’ll want to do this yourself.

The process is pretty simple. You’ll want to schedule a couple of half-days free from distractions to do this.

Review why you’re in biz - things have changed - this is your personal and business vision... the long term of why you’re in business and why you get up every day.

Lessons Leant from 2020? There are probably 6+ business things that are top of mind that you have learned from any year... and for 2020 - there may be more.

Set financial goals - you can look at your previous year’s financials - normalizing any 2020 anomalies - and see where you have been. Then you can set goals for 2021, considering that the first 4 or 5 months (pre-vaccination for the majority) will be a different year than the rest.

What are your Critical Success Factors for 2021 - what HAVE to happen for your success in 20201?

What other non-financial goals will help you hit these critical success factors?

What strategies are you thinking of putting in place for that

How are you going to measure that - what KPIs are you going to put in place and how are you going to have an automated dashboard to deliver this to you?

What do you want to achieve personally in the year - a transformation or possibly some bucket list items... I know personally speaking, that I have itchy feet and want to get back to some foreign vacations.

How do you want to celebrate your success - at a business level.

Second Option - bring in the team. This can be virtual or in-person - depending upon how you are operating at this point. BUT - don’t put this off until COVID-19 is over - that’s not going to be for 4-6 months and you need a plan for 2021 NOW.

If you are running this virtually, as most companies I am working with are - then I suggest two separate 3-hr Zoom sessions on different days.

Part 1 -

Review where you are and your successes in 2020

Review your long term plan

Set your 2021 yearly goals

Agree on what needs to be focused on to achieve your 2021 goals

Part 2 -

Prioritize what needs to be focused on to achieve your 2021 goals

Work as a team to brainstorm and then solve each focus

Agree on the next action - who, what, where, when & how

Set success factors and how you will celebrate your wins.

Send off your team by motivating them for a quick start
